I’ve been carrying around book postcards for nearly five months. Handing them out to fans and friends. If you know my mom or mother-in-law, they possibly gave out more than I did.
The words on the card “Available August 2019” felt as though they would never become a reality.
But, as they always do, the days flashed before my eyes and suddenly it was August. My release day has passed and now I’m neck-deep in encouraging emails from fans (thank you!), planning speaking events for later in the year, and getting my kiddos ready for school to start next week.
Why is it that we are always looking ahead? To next week or next year. Our next vacation. Or as far as my literary agent is concerned—the next book!
What about today?
This twenty-four hour chunk of time that we can never repeat. Never go back and try again. There is one opportunity for today. One chance to change our little corners of the world… in just one day.
Searching on biblegateway.com (my favorite online Scripture finding tool), I found hundreds of references with the word TODAY. Here’s the verse that fell heavy on me this morning.
“And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly, blessed by God, your God…”
Deuteronomy 30:16 MSG
It’s not bad to look ahead, as long as we are fully living today. Living in the now. Fully loving our God and the people around us. My challenge for today is to live—really live—in the here and now.
