What’s Standing in Your Way?

“I failed the exam on purpose. I’m going to stay in Walnut Grove and run the restaurant. And I want to marry Rachel Brown.”

–Willie Oleson

A crossroads in life is often the time when we realize where we’re headed is not where God wants us to be. Mrs. Oleson dreamed of her son going to college, but Willie knows in his heart that it’s not for him. He boldly stands up to the expectations of his mother, setting a new course for his life.

Graduation is a much more joyous occasion than COVID-19, but both are turning points in life where vital decisions must be made. It’s the perfect time to reassess what’s working and what’s not. A paycheck that  provided for us a year ago, may be gone or looking a whole lot different than it did.

Uncertain times can leave us questioning what to do next and expectations can keep us from moving forward. Do we continue to work as we have in the past or is there another option? Do we go back to college, do we start a new business? The answers swirling in our heads is enough to drive us batty, but worry is not the solution.

The only answer is trust. Trusting in God who knows all things. He wasn’t surprised when the virus hit and He knows your future. Trust that God will direct your path. He’ll provide the means or the confidence to stand up to expectations, face our fears, and decide which direction to take. For Willie is was his mother standing in the way, what is it for you?

Verses to Ponder

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.” Proverbs 3:5-10 MSG

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV
