Don’t Forget

“Folks ain’t thinking much about Easter right now.”

–Jeb Carter

With the town of Walnut Grove being threatened, no one was thinking about the Carter’s Easter bunnies. The townspeople packed their covered wagons, tears filling every eye. How could anyone think of celebrating?

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we are only a few days from Resurrection Sunday as well. Our lives look very similar to the people of Walnut Grove, fearful and in a way angry at all that’s happening. Their hearts were heavy and their futures unknown. It’s all too familiar, we aren’t thinking about Easter either.

Uncertainty is the main focus right now—health, jobs, retirement plans, loved ones. Nothing is for sure and nothing is normal. We can’t hide out in our comfort zone, because just like Walnut Grove, suddenly it’s gone.

That first Easter morning was no different. The disciples had scattered in fear, they didn’t know what to do next. Everything they imagined about the Messiah crumbled as Jesus hung on a wooden cross. Somehow, they had forgotten what He said. “After three days, I will rise.” Just when everything seemed hopeless, there He was, standing before them.

The town of Walnut Grove was destroyed and our lives may feel that way, but the Savior of the world was not. He’s standing before us, offering what only He can give. He’s the way to the hope and peace we desperately need. He’s the reason for Easter. Celebrate!

Verses to Ponder

“Our firm decision is to work from this focused center: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 MSG

“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 MSG

Questions to Act On

How will you celebrate the resurrected Savior this year? Make a grand plan because Jesus is worth celebrating.
